We turn towards the possibility of growth and change when the warm sun of interested attention is given to us.

I’m a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist with 26 years of experience. A deep curiosity has always moved me about human beings and their dynamics. This curiosity is what motivates my work.

We are all in an ongoing process of growth, and most people look for a sense of wholeness and meaning at some level. My purpose in my work is to facilitate achieving this via new ways of being. My aim and hope for my patients is to create lives of wholeness, vitality, creativity, openness, purpose, and relatedness with others. I believe that this can be accomplished within an interactive, warm, and supportive therapeutic relationship

Adult psychotherapy is my work of choice. I see adults of all backgrounds and all ages, but primarily those for whom early conditions have been lacking or even traumatic. The effects of traumatic experiences, neglect, or instability can be depression, anxiety, and other “diagnosable” problems. Or there may be just a feeling of being disappointed, empty, sad, depleted, or out-of-sorts. Relationship behaviours and issues may be expressions of this. Grief and loss, while typical experiences in life, may have a more severe effect when old traumas or bereavements are unprocessed.

I do both long-and short-term work, with psychoanalytic self-and-relational psychology as the underlying framework. This perspective sees the relationship between the therapist and the patient as an essential part of healing in therapy. Gender and sexuality, including LGBTQ+, are interests, as well as life-cycle experiences and the challenges of getting older.

I am a certified Focusing-Oriented Psychotherapist. FOT is a profound way of working which pays gentle attention to how meanings are held inside the body. Connecting with a more profound felt sense or “murky edge” behind more explicit feelings can be extremely helpful in shifting when intellectual insight and understanding are not enough to create change – see www.focusing.org.

I am trained to offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). This is a specialised modality for treating traumas, including PTSD and complex trauma. I employ EMDR within ongoing therapy when it seems appropriate to work with stuck places related to specific traumas. I have a longstanding background in trauma. However, EMDR is a further development of essential trauma work.

Spirituality and its development have been a thread in my life for decades. This perspective is the implicit background to all my therapeutic work. I’m also fascinated by creativity in all forms and its effects on exploring, releasing, and growing the self. I see writing as a path to healing.

In addition, I see creative playfulness as intrinsic to psychotherapy, and I’ve done training in Improvisational Theatre, which contributes to this sense of possibility in creativity. My therapy work and life processes have given me an understanding of many human life experiences. This helps me in being able to work with very different clients. I draw on a lifetime of experience with various working modalities, depending on what is needed at any specific moment with a particular individual.

I would love to work with you if my approach appeals to you. Usually, I begin with 1 – 3 sessions to assess whether there is a fit between us.

Let’s start with a phone call.
